The journey to bring "Riddick: Furya" to the screen has been a long one. Diesel first appeared as the enigmatic Riddick in the 2000 film "Pitch Black," a surprise box office success that spawned two direct sequels: "The Chronicles of Riddick" in 2004 and "Riddick" in 2013. Since 2014, plans for a fourth instalment have been in the works, with Diesel expressing Universal's interest in developing another sequel due to the success of "Riddick" on DVD charts. After several years without updates, Diesel thrilled fans in June 2021 by announcing that David Twohy, the director and co-writer of every previous installment, would return for "Furya." He praised Twohy's script, calling it fantastic and expressing excitement about the timing for production. Over the years, Diesel has kept fans engaged with teasers and glimpses into the upcoming film. In September 2021, he shared a throwback photo of himself as Riddick on Instagram, and in May 2022, he posted a storyboard from the highly anticipated sequel. In February 2023, Twohy was reaffirmed as the writer-director of "Furya," stating his readiness to honour the fans' "call-to-action."
As for the plot, "Riddick: Furya" will see the anti-hero returning to his home world, a place he barely remembers and fears may have been ravaged by the Necromongers. There, he discovers other Furyans engaged in a battle for survival against a formidable new enemy. Some of these Furyans will share unexpected similarities with Riddick, leading to intriguing character dynamics and thrilling action sequences. While the cast for "Furya" has yet to be confirmed, the previous three films featured notable actors like Keith David, Karl Urban, Dave Bautista, Judi Dench, and Thandiwe Newton. Fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the ensemble cast. As of now, a release date for "Riddick: Furya" has not been announced. However, with production set to commence soon, excitement continues to build for this long-awaited chapter in the beloved sci-fi franchise. Stay tuned for further updates and prepare for Riddick's return to the big screen!
